LA RÁBIDA

Just over three kilometers from the town of Palos de la Frontera is the “Monumental Complex of La Rábida,” the heart of the Colombian Route. Here, we can take a fascinating journey through the history of the Discovery, of what they believed would be a new route to India and turned out to be the American continent.

Coming from Huelva, just upon entering the La Rábida area, we encounter the Celestino Mutis Botanical Park, a natural paradise linking Spain and America, and here we begin our journey through history.

PALOS DE LA FRONTERA (urban area)

If we come from La Rábida, Palos de la Frontera welcomes us with the Avenida de América (Avenue of America). This avenue connects the town with the La Rábida complex. Along its entire length, we can see shields, made of tiles, representing Ibero-American countries and autonomous communities of Spain, flanked by palm trees. It was inaugurated in 1981. Following the order on the map, we can visit all the iconic places in this municipality, the cradle of the Discovery of America.

MAZAGÓN

Just 12 kilometers from Palos, we find Mazagón, a population center belonging to the municipalities of Moguer and Palos de la Frontera and governed by the Moguer-Palos Consortium. It is a coastal nucleus with over 9 kilometers of wide and bright beaches, from the Vigía Pier, located in the Ciparsa area, to the Mazagón Parador. Well-maintained and easily accessible beaches for family tourism that prevails during the summer season.

Mazagón also boasts the most pristine beaches in the province of Huelva, where we can contemplate marvelous sunsets. It has a privileged natural environment, with the dune and pine forests as highlighted elements.

Mazagón is an urban center with a strategic location, bordered by the Doñana National Park to the northwest, and nearby we find the Natural Areas of Lagunas de Palos and Las Madres, and the Estero Domingo Rubio. In addition, its parent nuclei, Moguer and Palos, give it a Columbus and Juan Ramón character.
