Plaza de San Jorge

On the feast day of the town’s patron saint in the year 2015, the Plaza de San Jorge Mártir was blessed. It is presided over by a small chapel with a sculpture of the patron saint donated by the patronal brotherhood. It is noteworthy that this clay effigy of the Saint served as a sketch for the creation of the image of San Jorge that parades through the town every year on the Saturday closest to April 23. This small sanctuary features traditional Andalusian architecture with exposed brick, tiles, and iron. Next to the glass door, a tile with his image and the lyrics of the hymn with which, from time immemorial, the people of Palos invoke their patron. Geranium pots, lanterns, and palm trees complete the ensemble as if it were a typical Andalusian courtyard.
